Electricity price barometer for Belgium
This barometer surveys the monthly amounts advertised for residential electricity contracts marketed in Belgium. It positions an offer against the market at a given date. It does not replace the official regulator calculators, which compute a full annual bill for your own consumption and your own commune.
Treat these figures as a positioning tool, not a bill estimate. In Belgium the energy component is only part of what you pay: network tariffs and levies are regional and non-negotiable, which is why an offer that looks cheap here can rank differently in a regulator simulation.

Method
We record manually the monthly amounts advertised for residential electricity contracts by suppliers active in Belgium. Every survey is dated, and the date appears beneath the table.
We retain the standing tariff rather than temporary acquisition promotions, so that the series stays comparable from one month to the next. A discount limited to the first year does not enter the survey.
We do not weight by consumption profile. A weighted barometer would be more precise but less reproducible, and we prefer an indicator that a third party can recalculate from the same public sources.
No supplier can influence this survey, and no supplier can appear in it in exchange for payment.
What this barometer cannot tell you
It cannot tell you what your bill will be. In Belgium the invoice combines the energy component, the distribution and transmission tariffs and a set of levies, and only the first of those moves when you change supplier.
Those network tariffs are regional and set by the regulators: CWaPE in Wallonia, VREG in Flanders and BRUGEL in Brussels. Two households with identical consumption and the same supplier can therefore pay noticeably different totals.
It also says nothing about contract structure. A fixed-price contract and a variable one can sit at the same level today and diverge sharply within a year, and that risk is not visible in a single monthly figure.
For a decision rather than a comparison, run your annual consumption through the federal CREG tool or your regional regulator's calculator. Those compute the whole bill for your commune, taxes and network costs included.
Reusing the data
The figures are published under an open licence and may be quoted or reused, including for commercial purposes, provided Switchr.be is cited as the source and the survey date is given.
The series is archived month by month and can be supplied in a structured format on request, which is what makes it usable for press and research work rather than only for individual comparison.

Are promotional discounts included?
No. We record the standing tariff outside temporary promotions so the series stays comparable over time. First-year discounts can reduce your real cost significantly and should be checked directly with each supplier.
Why is the median used rather than the average?
Because an average is distorted by extreme offers, and a handful of premium contracts is enough to pull it upwards. The median describes better what a household positioned in the middle of the Belgian market pays.
