itsme is the mobile application used in Belgium to prove your identity online and to sign documents electronically. It replaces card readers for most public services, banks, insurers and utility portals. A very large part of Belgian administrative life now runs through this single login: tax filings, the pension file, mutuality portals, energy accounts, insurance contracts and the electronic signature of a lease or a loan offer.
Enrolment depends on something you have to obtain first, either a Belgian bank account with its card and reader, or an activated electronic identity card with its PIN. Both come after commune registration, which is why the sequence matters.
