Bank mobility service
Bank mobility is the Belgian service that automatically transfers your direct debits and standing orders from one bank to another. The request is made at the incoming bank, which drives the whole operation and notifies your creditors of the new account number. The service is free and operates within regulated deadlines.
What it does and what it does not
The service takes over direct debits, the recurring collections you have authorised, and standing orders, the transfers you scheduled. Your creditors are informed of the new account number.
It does not transfer money that third parties send to you: salary, reimbursements, allowances. You have to give your new account number to your employer and to every organisation that pays you.
It does not close the old account either. Keep it open for several weeks after the transfer, until the last flows have moved. Closing prematurely is the most frequent cause of incidents.
Frequently asked questions
Is the bank mobility service free?
Yes, the service is free in Belgium and the incoming bank offers it when the account is opened. Fees can still apply to the transfer of a securities portfolio, which is governed by separate rules.
How long does the transfer take?
The service operates within regulated deadlines and generally completes within a few weeks. Watch both accounts during that period and keep enough money on the old one until you have full confirmation.
